What Is Freediving?

Diving into deep water with only one breath, and without breathing apparatus is known as freediving. Freedivers utilize inward control, discipline, and strength to dive deep into the water and hold their breath until they surface. Freediving is a leisure and competition sport, with numerous freediving competitions taking place regularly around the world.

What Is the Difference Between Snorkeling and Freediving?

While both snorkeling and freediving require similar equipment, they are quite different. Snorkelers sit on the surface of the ocean looking down through their masks, taking a breath in their snorkels. In contrast, freedivers go deep below the ocean’s surface, holding their breaths until they return to the surface. Freedivers use their snorkel only just at the surface of the ocean and are able to remove the snorkel before they descend. Both can use spearfishing equipment and start a new hobby.

If I Can’t Hold My Breath for a Long Time Does That Mean I Can’t Freedive?

Do I Need to Know How to Swim?

While you don’t have to have the qualifications of an Olympic swimmer to be able to complete the course, it is crucial that you feel comfortable when you are in the water. To be a Freediver you will need to be able to swim 200 meters/218 yards. The swimming test is not timed and is able to be completed with any stroke, which means you can take your time. How Old Do I Need to Be to Start Freediving?

In order to take Freediver, or the Freediver course you must be at a minimum of fifteen years of age. If you’re younger than 15 and wish to learn free-dive, we have special courses that are available. Anyone aged 12 or older can enroll in a Basic Freediver course and anyone who is 8 years old or over can enroll in taking their Skin Diver course.

How Long Does It Take to Get Certified?

Classes are designed to ensure that the required skills can be learned regardless of the timeframes. Some individuals may find these skills easier to master while others may require to spend a bit more time.
